ABOUT

Carlos Cabo, Escultor cerámico

My name is Carlos Cabo and I was born in Spain in 1951. Throughout my professional career, I have mainly dedicated myself to teaching. However, my true passion has always been linked to the field of artistic expression, encompassing painting, photography and ceramics.

I began my artistic career with photography, then I started in the world of painting and currently, my focus is on ceramics. It is in this last field of ceramics where I feel most comfortable, where I move with more ease, with more freedom, where I express my creativity in a more fluid and natural way, truly finding my artistic voice.

In my creative process, I approach my pieces in an essentially intuitive way, allowing feelings, emotions and sensations to set the pace.

I give importance to both the tangible and the intangible, the real and the imaginary.

Generally, I start my creations from a simple idea of volume, texture or shape, and even sometimes without any reference, giving myself over to the creation of the piece without restrictions, letting my hands take the lead, in an exercise of absolute improvisation.

I conceive and practice ceramics as a holistic whole. When I have the opportunity, I enjoy collecting clay directly from the field for my creations. This practice goes beyond simple collection; it represents a return to the places of my childhood and a way of giving identity to my pieces.

Despite living far from my homeland, I try to fulfill this desire whenever I can.
As for the finishing of my pieces, I do not use engobes or industrial glazes; only pigments and terra sigillata, which I obtain from the clay that I collect directly from the field. I prefer the fine texture and velvety shine of the sigillata to the wide range of possibilities offered by commercial slips and glazes.
